I originally pursued media studies to dissect the way we as humans interact online and how that differs from the expectations and unspoken rules of the real world. The study of the unique uses and gratifications of a single medium resonated with me and impacted all my production processes, and I began to think the story I tell may not matter as much as the story that is heard.

I implemented this curiosity in a research thesis exploring the digital experience of neurodiverse individuals and the phenomena of negotiated decoding and oppositional gaze. As an autistic person myself, I marveled at the intricate nature of intersectional message decoding amongst marginalized communities. There's an infinite and ever-evolving web of intentional and unintentional interpretations of a singular piece of content, and I believe understanding that is the key to effective design.

To me, design not only solves problems but also advocates for equity, empowers communities, and fosters inclusion.
